I did download the Gimp, just haven't had time to come to grips with it.Īnd? I take it you're not in favour of the iMac?Ĭopied from so I don't have to keep running back and forth.

The only one of those I use is PDF - what - I have to plug it in? :? Where are the ports on this thing? Bottom edge of the screen? I saw an iMac up close at my last assignment but didn't inspect it for all the things I now need to know!!!! Woe!ĮTA: And what's a Fireware 400 port and what would I use them for? One thing I thought was really good was a separate graphics card. My dithering is that if I don't get this then I opt for a PC and go the route Gary suggested in the other thread (I'll copy it here for reference in a minute) and that means it'll either be a Dell or HP and I really will be faced with a confusion of specs. Probably good advice re the "grunt" - let's face it, anything at all is going to be better than what I've got I don't mind glassy screens at all, in fact rather like them, it's the piddly keyboard and flat mouse I would probably have more trouble with. My mini is a refurb, you couldn't tell it from new, excepting it came in a more plain cardboard box and cost - thanks for that It would seem that you and Chris have followed the general om all reports once one gets their sticky little paws on a Mac, they're hard to leave - if you mean the "glassy" screen, I currently use a 15" CRT with glass (curved) at home :jawdrop: and don't really notice the difference when I use the flat screens at work. Different models/configs will come up from day to day so keep checking until one that meets your requirements shows up.
#Aquamacs ubuntu how to
Over the next three months I found myself using the Mac more and more until after about 3 months I had pretty well worked out how to do everything on the Mac and I hardly ever needed to turn it on again.įootnote: If you don't get this, check out Apple Australia refurb shop. I used windows up until 22 months ago when I bought a Mini for test. You can use it for all your windows testing.įwiw, I use a Mac Mini of a pretty similar spec to that iMac. VirtualBox is a free virtualization solution that works on the Mac ( & windows & linux & solaris).

Keep the windows machine for a door stop, bookend or a boat anchor maybe This of course is completely unnecessary. Of course, keep a Windows machine near by for testing purposes, but don't ever do anything else with it. I'm allowed to ask questions if you have any.īear in mind, if we go for this you lot are installing it long distance!! It is my exact price range (although I can stretch to $AUD1500) Happy to demo if you are seriously thinking on trying a Mac. There is seven months remaining of AppleCare (Apple’s extended warranty), which is handy – never had to use it so far for this machine.Īsking $1500 for the lot, iMac + Display, or $1150 for the iMac and $350 for the display.

The iMac is capable of running Windows (XP or Vista), alongside Mac OSX if you wish to do so.
#Aquamacs ubuntu update
The operating system is Mac OSX Tiger, though I will update it to Mac OSX Leopard (the most current Mac OSX from late last year). SuperDrive: DVD+R DL/DVD+/-RW/CD-RW (burns DVDs and CDs)īuilt in audio (though you can connect external speakers if you wish) The additional display is simply gravy and is of exceptional quality.įor the technically minded, the specs are: The iMac is the one I’ve been working on here lately, a third generation version (the model before the current iMac) and has been well looked after – all original components (install discs, remote, display connectors etc.) remain. I rang Deb and asked her to put first "dibs" on it till I can get back to her tomorrow.Īs part of rationalising my Mac computers, I am going to sell my iMac (20” display) with an additional 20” Cinema Display.īefore I hit eBay, I thought I’d see if anyone here would like to grab it (plus it saves me having to drag the boxes home…). Oooeeerk!!! This is all hasppening a bit fast! Talk to "the Management upstairs" and it arrives on the doorstep in two days?Įmail from Deb this morning.a work colleague is selling an iMac (the second display went before I could get back to her).
